2025 Apr. Semiconductor Market Supply & Demand: ST MCU Still The Popular

May 24 2025

Last month, the semiconductor industry was affected by tariffs and new rules on origin determination, and the supply and demand of electronic components fluctuated. The most obvious one was Texas Instruments. The popularity of various products has increased significantly. Due to the price increase of memory manufacturers, production capacity adjustments, risk aversion, and stocking on the demand side, the price increase trend is obvious. STM Microcontroller popularity is also continuing to rise.

The financial reports of major semiconductor giants in Q1 2025 also reflect that the market is recovering, but inventory pressure still exists. Hot application markets such as AI and automotive have increased demand for components, which may drive domestic substitution to continue expanding market share, launching new products, and expanding to high-end applications.

Hot Search Categories & Brands in April 2025: TI Drives the Growth of Analog IC Demand

Among categories, transient voltage suppressors and DC-DC converters saw a month-on-month increase in search volume, but MCU still ranked first in popularity. Among the top 10 categories, rectifiers, MOSFETs, and general-purpose bipolar transistors saw the largest month-on-month decreases. Among the popular brands, only TI saw a month-on-month increase in search volume, mainly due to its analog chip business. The search volume of other brands all decreased month-on-month, reflecting the general adjustment of the original manufacturers' performance and the overall tone of destocking.

ST MCU Regains Popularity, TI Products Account For More

Analog chips and MCUs cover industrial, consumer, automotive, communications, and other applications. Except for consumer electronics, the demand for other terminal markets has increased. TI is the global leader in analog chips, and ST is the leading manufacturer of microcontrollers. Therefore, these two brands account for the largest proportion of the TOP 50 popular components.

Among the hot search components in April, STMicroelectronics MCU accounts for the largest proportion, and each series continues the growth trend of search volume in March. Many models have a large month-on-month growth rate. TI's products with increased search volume cover multiple categories in the signal chain and power devices. ADI LTM4644IY still maintains a high popularity, and the popularity of Xilinx XC7K325T-2FFG900I programming devices has rebounded after a decline. According to CHUANGXIN INDEX, the popular models in April mainly come from ST and TI. Affected by tariff policies and market supply and demand fluctuations, price increases have become the main theme.

TI's products dominate the list of soaring popularity. The other four models are products from Infineon, NXP, Macom, and ADI.

Supply and Demand of Various Components

Affected by tariffs and new rules on the determination of origin, TI has the most obvious fluctuations, followed by ADI. Microchip is still mainly destocking, and due to the fierce competition in the MCU market, there has been no significant boost. Onsemi's popularity has not fluctuated significantly. The popularity of automotive chip manufacturers— Infineon, NXP, Renesas, etc. has not fluctuated much, and all kinds of products are generally in sufficient supply. ST has not been affected and continues its popular status on microcontrollers.

Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have all taken price increase measures in the DRAM and NAND flash memory markets, and their production has shifted to high-profit products. In the DRAM market, large original manufacturers have successively stopped production of DDR4 modules, resulting in a reduction in supply, so customers need to accept higher prices. NAND flash memory supply is higher, but MLC small-capacity eMMC is still in short supply.

In addition, passive components are also affected by supply and demand. Yageo's Kemei will increase the price of some specifications of the polymer tantalum capacitor product line (KOCAP), which will take effect in June. This reflects the supply and demand gap caused by the demand brought about by the expansion of AI servers. An institutional report pointed out that the MLCC market is at risk of sluggish demand in the second half of the year.

Summary

The semiconductor industry market shows signs of recovery, but inventory pressure still needs to be further digested. Overall, market supply and demand are still unstable. Global chip manufacturers are also adjusting their strategic layout to weaken the impact of uncertain factors such as policies.
